A Sudoku puzzle sometimes spelled Su Doku is a logic-based placement puzzle. The Japanese looks lke: 数独, also known as Number Place in the United States. The name Sudoku is the Japanese abbreviation of a longer phrase, "suji wa dokushin ni kagiru," meaning "the digits must remain single". The aim of the canonical puzzle is to enter a numerical digit from 1 through 9 in each cell of a 9×9 grid made up of 3×3 subgrids (called "regions"), starting with various digits given in some cells (the "givens"). Each row, column, and region must contain only one instance of each numeral. Completing the puzzle requires patience and logical ability. Although first published in a U. S. puzzle magazine in 1979, Sudoku initially caught on in Japan in 1986 and attained international popularity in 2005. There is no mathematics required to solve the puzzles, just pure logic and
reasoning. Sometimes, when you examine a block, you can determine that a certain number
must be in a specific row or column, even though you cannot determine exactly
which cell in that row or column. This is enough information to remove that
number from the candidate list for other cells in the same row or column, but
outside the block. Some people are as obsessed as 1980s teenagers fixated on the Rubik's cube.
It's a puzzle found in newspapers, books and online. A simple-looking grid of
nine rows by nine, split into nine boxes, each containing nine squares, it looks
like just another numbers game. You can't image such little game in the puzzle
